Perilla Nut Oil

Also known in English as perilla, beefsteak plant, chinese basil, purple mint. The oil is highly unsaturated, with an iodine number of 185 to 208, and includes linolenic, linoleic, and oleic acids. It has a high linolenic content, approximately 64%. Perilla foliage and seed oil are used extensively in Korean cooking. The oil is clear, bright yellow to golden in color and has a bland characteristic odor. Shelf life: minimum 1 year when properly stored in a cool place away from heat and light, refrigeration is recommended. The efficacy of perilla oil is well known in Korea for heart and liver protection, skin rejuvenation and relieving children’s dry cough. This oil would make a wonderful carrier oil for dry, mature and/or damaged skin applications as well as an ingredient in massage blends, body scrubs, bath salts and creams. Many consider this oil to have antibacterial properties and suitable for acneic conditions. SAP values: NaOH 0.135, KOH 0.19.
